Hah this brings back memories, do you play the games too by any chance? I just started X and I’m in awe of how far the graphics and gameplay have come – I can choose hats?!?! Amazing!
Haven’t played the games in a while or gotten the newest ones, but a few years ago I got Pokemon Black and ya, man the games have changed a lot! I was mostly in awe over the fact that there was colour seeing as the last one I’d played was Pokemon Yellow! Actually, I still have Yellow and a working GBA I must root out one of these days.

Well I also have some of the pokemon games on my laptop, but really you just can’t beat playing games on the old machines! (I’m just very found of the older gaming platforms, still have my ps2 as well) Though I also have pokemon black in Japanese on my 3ds which I might play soon and justify it as study XD
I agree, when I played on my laptop it wasn’t the same. Do you think playing Pokemon in Japanese might be a good way for a beginner to work on learning the language? I’ve been considering doing that
Hmm, maybe not a beginner.I’d say you might want to have a grasp on grammar first or else it might be difficult to understand but once you know the basics, I’m all for using things that interest you to learn a language. I’m hoping it’ll help me with reading and vocabular over the summer at least.
Well, there’s loads of online resources these days so I imagine a quick google would find you site to learn the basics of Japanese. languagepod101.com have good resources, I’m learning from their Norwegian podcast which is good, so I presume the Japanese one has a similiar format.
I suppose you could just learn to read Japanese first and jump straight into playing pokemon, just looking things up as you go along. I know it has the option of kana or kanji in the game, so if you pick kana you only have to learn how to read hiragana and katakana which are easy to learn.

Know how you feel. I know a lot of people do go to Japan without being able to speak a word of it, but I can’t see myself doing that. Though knowing my luck I’ll finish a four year degree with a minor in Japanese, go to Japan and find that nothing sounds like how I learned it in class!
