Crochet Society Box 14 – Unboxing

Hello everyone, hope you’re doing well and if you’re not, I hope this down period doesn’t linger too long for you.

As you know, I recently resubscribed to the Crochet Society box because I have poor restraint and spend too much money when I’m feeling down. The bright side of that is that at least my spending past self bought things that involve monthly deliveries so I’ve been getting to enjoy things arriving sporadically, like this second box of my six month subscription to Crochet Society!

It’s a nice enough looking box but I’m not going to lie, this box is probably my least favourite of all the boxes I’ve gotten (this is the 8th I’ve gotten in total) and it’s no fault of it really – it’s to do with my dislike of glitter…I would even say hate because not properly encased glitter is one of the worst things to ever exist…ever…I really don’t like it.

The glitter on the box is encased but still, didn’t get off to a good start there.

Here are the contents of the box:

It came with quite a few bits and pieces but why don’t I like it? Because glitter. It doesn’t show up in the photo but the polymer clay crochet hook handle as glitter on it and it doesn’t shed much but the first time I picked it up and rolled it around in my hand I did see 2 or 3 pieces of glitter left on my hand. I’m also not a huge fan of pin badges but that’s fine.

The main reason I’m not a huge fan of this box is that the yarn – it doesn’t feel too bad but it’s one of those stellina yarns, a yarn with a strand of shimmer, metallic looking plastic running through it and I really don’t like those yarns. I’ve used a few in the past and always found them really rough to work with. The end result can feel lovely but I really don’t like working with stellina yarns.

The sunglasses travel scissors are cute though (I gave them to my mum for her handbag), the project bag is handy (even if I don’t care for the ‘beach please’ sentiment), and the travel cards of crochet stitches are a nice idea for a newer crocheter.

All in all, it’s a nice box where the glittery stuff and colours fit the mermaid/beach theme but it’s just not for me. I’m sure I’ll use the yarn…eventually… but that hook is going in a jar and not being touched again in case glitter comes off it! That might be a bit much but I really don’t like glitter shedding! Does anyone else feel this strongly about glitter or is it just me?

  1. I like the look of glitter and do use it occasionally, but I make sure that it stays where it’s put. Horrific memories of a wedding invitation arriving and shedding loose glitter everywhere – why would you do that to someone? I must admit I have found myself browsing articles like “21 of the best craft subscription boxes in the UK” recently, which I seriously do not need but… maybe I’ll go browse my Jackson’s Art wishlist instead…

    1. That’s the worst – when you’re not expecting it and then bam! glitter everywhere!
Yeah, lately I have spent a lot of time browsing for subscription boxes! Thankfully, a lot of them are just too expensive to get shipped to Ireland so that’s preventing me from getting them it ain’t stopping me looking! Browsing Jackson’s Art is just as dangerous for me…every time I go on there I just start wanting all the watercolour sets and I really don’t need them 😀
