Knitted Baby Blanket and Handmade Card

Hey everyone, how’s it going? Hope you’re all doing well. I have a short post for you today just to show you some things I’ve been making recently.

My neighbour just had a baby so I decided to knit a baby blanket for my mom to give her. I’d bought a ball of blue pom pom yarn because it seemed so soft and I’d knitted a small blanket up with that but I was still unsure about how I felt about the pom pom yarn. My mom loved it though and requested a baby blanket so I went out and bought two balls of yellow and white pom pom yarn to knit the blanket for her.

I have to say, I do love the end result of knitting with pom pom yarn. It is super soft and cozy! I still don’t know if I actually like knitting with it though! I’m fairly certain, however, that there will be a lot more baby blankets being knitting from it in the future.

I also made a baby card to go with it, the one on the left below. I’d bought this paper pack of yellow and grey papers – half with baby patterns and half with just plain, any occasion patters – and had this idea in my head of the paper folded backwards.Unfortunately, I didn’t know where to go with the card after that so I just made a bow, stuck it down and left it at that.

Good thing I had some spare yellow new baby cards made that I could give to go along with the blanket because not every card you make will be a success!

But yes, that’s all for this post. Let me know which card you prefer, the one on the left or the one on the right. Also, if you’re a knitter, have you ever used pom pom yarn? Do you have any tips for using it?

  1. 2 things, I absolutely adore the blanket. I love that it is soft and fluffy and is so perfect for a new mommy to WANT to use with her baby.
Secondly, Your card marking skills are pretty spot on. Do you have a stamp for the quotes and lettering or is that freehand?

    1. Or just for mommy herself. Hell, I’d want that blanket for me. Everyone should have one xD
And thanks! It’s a stamp that I used (I could never freehand so nicely!). The brand is Mama Elephant but I can’t remember the name of that stamp set.

  2. Love the blanket! If I knew how to knit I’d totally make myself an adult sized one. Sewing baby blankets and quilts are one of my favorite things to make. There’s just something about baby stuff.

    1. Thanks! It really is so soft because the blanket is a double layer of all those mini pom poms. Still not sure how I feel about using the yarn but I certainly love the result!

  3. I like both cards, maybe the one of the left is more original so slightly more cute! Never knitted with the pompom yarn but my mother in law did a few years ago and she said it was great to cast on and knit, but dreadful to work our casting off. Yours is cute, nice job!

    1. I do like the idea of the card with the bow but I need to work with it a bit more I think.
And ya, casting off with the yarn was quite tricky – something I need to look up!

  4. That blanket looks so soft and snuggly! I don’t knit, but I have done some crochet in the past and textured yarns can be an absolute nightmare to work with – I had some fluffy stranded yarn once and gave up in disgust 🙂

    1. Textured yarns can either be lovely to work with or a nightmare, there’s no middle ground! I don’t know if crocheting with pompom yarn is possible, must look that up!
